The BT Sport years
2013 - 2019

I was temporarily drafted in from my day job at BT to help get the BT Sport website up and running ahead of the channel's big launch in August 2013.

Being at the TV studios in east London on launch night was one of the most exciting moments of my career.
BT had gone big, both financially and creatively, in its attempt to break new ground in sports broadcasting.

As the ads said, it felt like a genuine game changer.

A year later I was asked to hire and lead a team of digital content specialists to manage the day-to-day output of the BT Sport website and app.

During the next five years my team were instrumental in covering thousands of live and on-demand events, including exclusive rights to the English Premier League, The Ashes, Moto GP, UFC, Premiership Rugby and more.

I was proud of how we delivered belt-and-braces coverage from hundreds of events each year - pre, during and post TV transmission.
With the breadth of rights we had to cover, the millions of visitors we reached each week, plus the rolling news agenda we reported on, that was no mean feat.

In 2018, the BT Sport app won App Of The Year at the Drum Online Media Awards.

But the achievement I'm most proud of is the team I built back in 2014-16.
As I type (2022), most of those people are still in place, continuing to deliver outstanding coverage and winning more awards.

From a personal point of view, a particular highlight came in 2014.
I was fortunate to be invited on a trip to Rio de Janeiro to deliver customer comms about how money raised from The Supporters Club - BT Sport's charity arm - had helped some of Brazil's poorest communities.

Here I am with a group of coaches and kids from a favela soccer school that was funded by the generosity of BT's customers in the UK.
